My son has been training here for 3 years and it has been a wonderful journey. The staff instill confidence and a skill set that he practices across so many aspects of his life. The impact karate has had on his life is tangible, both physically and mentally. It has helped him deal with obstacle and hurdles in life and gives him an edge over most of his peers because of the inner strength he has discovered and developed.
Three years ago we were emerging from the Pandemic and starting to integrate our kids into activities. Having three kids of relatively the same age, we were trying to navigate these new waters while also maintaining a schedule that did not overrun our lives. Fortunately for us, there was an Action Karate studio just a few blocks from our house. We gave it a try.Each of our children are uniquely talented, yet each found his or her place within the Dojo. They were challenged in ways that kept them motivated and supported in ways that helped them grow. Over the years they have improved their coordination, grew more confident, and increased their grit and dedication. They have persevered when things were challenging and reaped the rewards of trying again.As parents, we have enjoyed watching them grow and learn new skills. The flexible schedule allowed us juggle other commitments and even take time off when needed. My kids made wonderful connections with other children, as well as adults within the Dojo. Action karate Fairmount is our Dojo and home away from home. My 6 yr old son has been taking classes since he was 3 years old and he has learned so much. Not only are karate classes good for his physical health but he is learning so many useful life skills such as discipline, honesty, gratitude and grit.The sense of community at action karate is also strong. Two years ago we had to move my son’s birthday party indoors last minute and the team at action karate helped to make this happen and threw an amazing event. We’ve had two birthday parties there and they have been stress free and fun filled events. It also helped that my son was able to have his party at a place where he is comfortable and feels confident. Action Karate has been wonderful for my niece. She is learning to be confident not only in herself but also socially. My son Matvei joint karate team when he was 4 year old. Initially, he found himself grappling with consistency and mastering the proper forms and techniques, but he was captivated by the dynamic moves and engaging classes. Action Karate Fairmount has been great! Love how the instructors are with the children and helps them feel comfortable. Kids are having fun learning and building confidence while making friends too. It can be a big class at times but they still always pay attention and do one on one help during class with someone if they need a bit of help. We joined Action Karate Fairmount right before the pandemic. When the pandemic hit, AK Fairmount did a really good job at pivoting to virtual, and later, to outdoor classes. They provided our family a consistent fitness routine and a way to feel connected to a community. At first, my child was hesitant to join AK because they had loved their Shotokan practice at the YMCA, however, Mr. Justin and Ms. Jacki were very supportive and encouraging, and my kid felt welcomed and challenged. In the past 3 years, my child has been able to deepen their karate practice through participating in the Demo team, competing in multiple AK tournaments, becoming a junior instructor, and earning their Black Belt this spring! Beyond their fitness gain, AK Fairmount has fostered a sense of community that helped my kid navigate a difficult transition to high school. Personally, as an adult learner, I have appreciated the supportive learning environment and the growth mindset of the instructors. Through taking classes, I have improved my fitness and strength, but more than that gained increased confidence in my body and in learning a completely new skill. My son Noah has been at Action Karate for the past few years and is set to take his black belt test this December. Action Karate @ Fairmount has been a wonderful experience for Noah and for me. He has gained such confidence in martial arts, at school and at home. My son has been with Action Karate Fairmount for the better part of the past 4 years. During that time, I have seen such an improvement in his overall behavior, discipline and focus. There have been times when his behavior has been challenging and I reached out to Ms. Jacki or Mr. Justin for support.He started off as a little guy that just wanted to karate chop/ break the boards. Now, he's in black belt leadership and demo, testing for his black belt and would love to become a karate instructor one day. He even assists with the little Ninjas.Prior to joining the Action family, he'd quit activities when he got bored or challenged, but he's managed to stick with karate through several seasons, non-stop. My youngest daughter, Madison Marie Armstrong, has had an incredible journey with Action Karate. It has been a wonderful experience for our family, as we were looking for a positive social outlet for our daughters outside of school. Our son started at Action Karate Fairmount in the ninja classes 3 years ago as an energetic 5 year old. In a month, he’ll be testing for his junior black belt. Karate has helped improve his focus, determination, strength, and balance. More importantly, he has learned how to set goals, and how to break them down into smaller parts to make them achievable. Sensei Justin, Ms. Jacki, Ms. Sandy, and all the instructors expect - and believe - that students will achieve their goals by practicing, making mistakes, and trying again. They also meet every student and their caregivers wherever they are that day in a welcoming, structured, challenging, inclusive, and encouraging environment. As lesbian foster/adoptive parents, we have always felt incredibly supported by the Action Karate Fairmount team.
My son has attended Action Karate for almost two years now and he loves it! It keeps him active, teaches discipline and most of all it’s challenges him. AK Fairmount is such a beautiful school with superb instructors. Even as an adult white belt, I felt very welcomed in class and managed to finish each class feeling stronger, more mindful, and appreciative of how much I had grown.

We are a Karate family. The kids and I began during the pandemic and were so impressed by the ways the instructors (at Mt. Airy) were able to handle the virtual instruction needed for physical activity. Flash forward to when we moved to W. Philly and switched to the Fairmount dojo, and we continue to appreciate how our instructors care and are focused on our learning. It's not only great exercise, it's great discipline, and our classes help center us, and our bodies, towards Black belt excellence.
My daughter has been attending Action Karate Fairmount for about 3 months now. With her attending these classes her self confidence has sky rocketed.. She was receiving a 1 since the beginning of the school year.. She is now at a 3. They push her just enough to challenge her but not too much where she closes up. I would recommend this program to anyone. Not only for the self defense, but for the discipline it instills in the children, the self esteem and confidence, as well as the healthy environment.
Action Karate Fairmount is a great place for children and adults. This karate community is a space of positivity for families no matter how big or small. My family joined 3 years ago during the pandemic, at the time there was not many activities for kids to do indoors. Action Karate Fairmount opened their doors safely and the staff always had a smile on their faces. My daughter started as a White Belt and now she is ready to earn her Junior Black Belt. Throughout this 3 year journey, my daughter has developed more self confidence, grit, and understanding of perseverance because of Action Karate. They taught her, and she experienced through the training that nothing worth wild is never easy to achieve. The Karate program is a process and some kids hardly get a chance at an early age to experience achieving a goal through process. Social Media has many kids confused by always posting the results, but never the process. The experience that my daughter received through this program has given her the hands-on knowledge to understand setting goals, realistic tasks, and creating a process for herself. Also this program allowed her to experience failure, learn how to take constructive criticism, and persevere through. We love Action Karate Fairmount Ahsa!

Action Karate Fairmount is amazing! My 4 year old son just loves class and he is gaining confidence. He feels so proud of himself and we are proud of his hard work. The teachers Ms. Jackie, Mr. Justin, Ms. Sandy, and student helpers are so great at balancing positive attitude, structure, support, and discipline. I can’t wait until my little one can join too. At our classes, you will be able to learn traditional karate and its
techniques, which include some fitness-based exercises.
Although each of our locations offers a different schedule, you can join us for your training sessions six days a week during our flexible time slots. This means we can accommodate your time schedule as and when you need it.
When you join us for your first karate training session, you should simply wear loose and comfortable clothing that you can move around in. What’s more is that once you join, you will receive a uniform that is included in the $49 introductory special.
Our karate classes are perfect for all individuals of varying skill levels and who fall into practically any age group.
