tldr: If you’re thinking about it, give Action Karate Bethlehem a try. I cannot recommend it enough!
My almost-six-year-old is coming up on three years at Action Karate Bethlehem—and we could not be happier with our experience! This is our longest running afterschool activity and the only one we’ve kept going nonstop, and I think it has everything to do with the incredible instructors. They are so patient and consistent and motivating, and Miss Casey, who runs the studio, is extremely skilled at de-escalating tricky situations and big feelings.
We knew we were in it for the long haul when our son turned five and decided he wanted to join Black Belt Leadership (committing to pursuing his black belt). My husband and I weren’t sure about it because it is a big commitment, but our son kept bringing it up over the next few months and he finally convinced us that he was serious about it. It has been so cool to watch him thrive here!
We are also really excited about the new location, which is so spacious and full of light. I literally cannot say enough good things about this karate school, the people who work so hard to make it amazing, and the great community of students and their families we have come to know over the past three years.

Our Son’s Karate Journey
Kal-El was 9 at the beginning of his karate journey. He was having a tough time in 4th grade due to bullying. His Dad and I had discussed starting him in Karate, not knowing at the time if it would help or not. He began his karate journey at the end of 2023. He was definitely was a timid child, so we weren’t sure if registering him in Karate would actually be beneficial towards boosting his self confidence. Little did we know this kid would prevail way above our expectations. He took the program serious from day one and put so much effort into making sure he advanced in his class. He was given the opportunity to perform in his first tournament in 2024. He practiced as best as he could to prepare for it. When tournament time came, I remember him looking so nervous that he actually didn’t want to talk much. When I tell you as SOON as he hit that performance mat, saying he completely SHOCKED us is an understatement! This kid transformed into a confident, serious as ever, not here to play any games performer!! His first tournament he received 2nd place and his next tournament he received 1st place!!! I know in my son’s eyes, karate was an excellent choice! In our eyes, we our so proud of his new-found confidence he exudes!

Action Karate Bethlehem came onsite to do a karate workshop for our Girl Scouts troop, ages 5-9. The content was age-appropriate and so much fun! Thank you to the fabulous instructors for teaching our girls confidence and how to defend themselves. Highly recommend for all local troop leaders!

Everyone is super sweet, welcoming, and full of good vibes. I usually feel picked on or out of place, but here I genuinely felt comfortable and included. It honestly felt like a wholesome anime arc IRL ✨
Student Mrs. A was amazing — super encouraging and invited me to jump in even though I originally came just to watch. That meant a lot to me 🥹
Ms. Casey is a legend. She gave me a free uniform and 2 weeks of unlimited classes, which was such a kind boost for someone shy and nervous like me. That level of generosity really stood out.
The environment is very neurodivergent-friendly. I felt respected, supported, and like I actually belonged. Everyone hypes each other up in a really positive, healthy way. Also… the shark logo and merch are awesome. 🦈
I was going through a rough patch in late 2024, and this place genuinely helped lift my spirits. There’s very little negativity here — just kindness, motivation, and people respecting each other.

We went to a birthday party at action karate and joined the 2 weeks free and ended up signing up my 2 grandsons. In 2 1/2 months my grandsons confidence and being more out going have progressed to better level. They have made friends and have learned how to ask for help when needed. They competed in the karate tournament and have even graduated to there next belt. Now they have been invited to join black belt leadership they are excited. I also have joined during the free month and I am enjoying the classes. The instructors are amazing with the kids very patient and calming demeanor to them. I can’t wait to learn more.

My kids look forward to coming to karate each week! Action karate is a great place, they are very kind and patient with their students and give lots of positive reinforcement and encourage all their students to try their best! The instructors do a wonderful job at keeping the students engaged through telling stories and lessons to teach focus, positivity, and discipline. They are very family oriented and make sure to make everyone feel welcome! My kids are extremely proud to be a part of the action karate family!

The truth is that I highly recommend this place, my son loves attending classes and it is something that will really help him since we are working at home to follow instructions and work as a team and it is fantastic to find a team to reinforce that.

Action, karate of Bethlehem is a great place there’s no judgement instructors are very nice and always look to help out where is needed. Communication is the best. If I have any questions they get back to me same day. My son is a part of action karate. Sometimes his siblings gets to join in for a buddy week and they all love it

I was looking for an extra curricular activity for my sons to do. My oldest was interested in karate. Once my oldest was enrolled my youngest followed. This was back in 2022. They have been enrolled ever since! They love their instructors and friends! They love the martial arts skills they have learned and the mantras they now incorporate in their lives! My oldest is now an instructor at action karate and my youngest is aiming to earn his junior black belt to become an instructor. They have both gained so much confidence and strength's. I am forever grateful to action karate!

Phenomenal learning environment for students of all ages. The instructors are very knowledgeable and patient with martial artists, toddlers and children with disabilities especially. Action Karate Bethlehem is located close to several popular restaurants and shops in the city. Close to some historical landmarks as well. I was hesitant at first but, ladies, how unnecessary! The staff is great and knowledgeable. Action Karate staff even got my 4-year-old to listen and stay focus for most -if not all- the session. The schedule and payment options are flexible and they offer private lessons as well. Overall, very happy with our experience.

Not only are all the sensei amazing they also take the time an help my daughter who is on the Spectrum. They are definitely amazing with the kids. An the owner operator is amazing also!!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff, curriculum, and community of Action Karate Bethlehem. My son has received amazing support from Miss Casey, all the other instructors, and the teen leaders. As a neurodivergent child, my son can sometimes struggle with learning and retaining new information and can sometimes become overwhelmed with sensory input and in social situations. The team has worked with him patiently and with a strengths approach, keeping him engaged and excited to attend class. For any parent considering enrolling their child in marital arts, Action Karate provides an opportunity for social connection, physical growth and health, and educational lessons that can be applied to common situations children experience. My son, age 9, has been attending classes for several years at Action. Not only has his practice improved but his confidence, awareness of things around him, and his general well being has improved. I have been waiting for him to express interest in tournaments and he has recently asked me to sign him up for the upcoming tournament. I am so proud of him for facing his fears and sticking with his practice. We have two girls at Action Karate Bethlehem. One recently earned her red belt and the other earned her purple belt. We are extremely grateful for Miss Casey and all of the staff at the school. They really care about the students and are always willing to provide extra help when needed to make sure our girls and others meet their goals. My son started karate at AK Bethlehem back in October 2023. It was completely new for the both of us but I wanted to keep him active and around kids his age since he's not in daycare or school. Our son, Grayson, started at AK Bethlehem several years ago and is currently working towards earning his jr. Black Belt. His older brother earned his black belt many years ago. Because Grayson looks up to him, he too expressed interest in karate. So we thought that we would give it a try and we are grateful that we did . Grayson has learned a great deal over the last couple of years. He has gained some confidence and made new friends along the way. The instructors are kind, knowledgeable and understanding. My daughter started at AK Bethlehem in 2021, because she expressed that karate was something she would like to try. My son Evan Hosking's Action karate journey. At the start of the pandemic Evan wanted to try karate and my wife found a Facebook black Friday special. He gave it a try and enjoyef it. As time went on and things started opening up he started playing different sports and it became more difficult to make it to enough classes. There was a few times that he didn't want to come to karate but he pushed through it and made it to class. He joined black belt leadership at purple belt. Journey to Junior Black Belt…
My son, Lucas, has been a student at Action Karate Bethlehem since February 2021. I have to say that it has been quite an amazing journey, for both of us, getting to this point where he is preparing to test for his Jr. Black Belt. Lucas started this karate adventure as a shy 10-year-old kid who lacked self-confidence and had absolutely no experience with martial arts beyond watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when he was younger. He was interested in trying karate, but was tentative about it up until the moment he met Miss Casey for his initial private lesson. Miss Casey was wonderful with Lucas and was able to coax him out of his shell while teaching some basic kicks and punches that form the foundation of karate. Lucas left that trial private lesson with his new karate gi and gear, and he was absolutely hooked. Fast forward to the present, and Lucas is extremely dedicated to karate, as he attends his regular classes 5 days per week, helps in Ninja (ages 3-6 years) classes each of those days, participates in sparring lessons, and is a member of the Senior Demo Team.
As a parent, there are so many changes I have seen in Lucas that can be directly attributed to his involvement in karate. He has grown into a confident young man, who has impressive patience and kindness with an aptitude for teaching. These qualities are best displayed during his Black Belt Leadership classes, where Lucas has been assisting the instructors with teaching the Ninjas. Lucas’s self-discipline continues to improve, and it translates into his home life by completing homework and chores without needing to be prompted. The qualities of respect, courage, and teamwork develop naturally simply by going to and participating in classes. I have observed the changes in Lucas’s focus, determination, and perseverance with growth every time he faces difficulty or challenge.
Action Karate has made a huge difference in Lucas’s life and I couldn’t be any happier that we are part of the Action Karate family!

As a parent, there are so many changes I have seen in Lucas that can be directly attributed to his involvement in karate. He has grown into a confident young man, who has impressive patience and kindness with an aptitude for teaching. These qualities are best displayed during his Black Belt Leadership classes, where Lucas has been assisting the instructors with teaching the Ninjas. Lucas’s self-discipline continues to improve, and it translates into his home life by completing homework and chores without needing to be prompted. The qualities of respect, courage, and teamwork develop naturally simply by going to and participating in classes. I have observed the changes in Lucas’s focus, determination, and perseverance with growth every time he faces difficulty or challenge.

Wonderful staff! My son loves karate now, he is autistic and adhd so he has a hard time focusing on things. But with Miss Casey and staff he is doing so great🎉 he’s learning all new things that are helping him through life, we appreciate everything you guys do!

My 12 year old son started at Action Karate Bethlehem over a year ago after transferring from another martial arts studio. He's been training overall since he was 5 years old. I have to say the staff at Action Karate has been amazing in helping him continue his journey to now becoming a black belt. The instructors are great with the students and very interested in their development. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to start or continue their karate experience!

When my son first went to Action Karate, we had high expectations, because he was being bullied at school and even though he said he didn't care, sometimes he looked sad and worried.
Action Karate has increased his confidence, he seems happier, and bullying seems to be in the past.

Miss Casey is really excellent. She takes her time with the kids and willing to help them if they don’t understand. She is so patient especially with the younger younger kids. Best instructor. Best recommendation for Bethlehem karate

Action Karate Bethlehem is the best karate school in the Lehigh Valley. The instructors do an amazing job working with the kids. My son loves going to class. The teaching he has gotten at Action Karate has helped improve his self confidence. I am so happy that I found this school.

Action Karate has been great for my son. He's a very active little boy and solid direction is best for him. They have good focus on positive vocabulary and verbal stimulation as well as well timed exercises and lessons for their age (3-5 yr olds). I love the help they get from the older classmates. It's good getting direction and aid from cool older kids who are setting the example for them to follow. Lessons in action. Good job guys:)

My daughter has been with Action Karate since September and it has been an amazing experience. Action Karate Bethlehem really cares about the lessons they teach and are always willing to provide extra help when needed to make sure our children meet their goals. My son joined Action Karate in February I was very skeptical about if he was going to be able to progress. Miss Casey and her team worked wonders with him and even though he still causes some disruption during class he has made so much progress and continues to grow every class. Action Karate Bethlehem offers a unique after-school experience tailored for families in the Bethlehem Area School District — a balanced mix of martial arts classes, fun games, and structured activities designed to build focus, respect, discipline, leadership, and confidence.
We currently offer school pick-up from Thomas Jefferson and William Penn Elementary, with flexible drop-off any time before 6:00 PM.
No other after-school program gives your child what Action Karate does. It’s more than a place to be after school – it’s an environment where they grow, stay active, and thrive. The perfect alternative to traditional daycare and childcare.

Although each of our locations offers a different schedule, you can join us for your training sessions six days a week during our flexible time slots. This means we can accommodate your time schedule as and when you need it.
When you join us for your first karate training session, you should simply wear loose and comfortable clothing that you can move around in. What’s more is that once you join, you will receive a uniform that is included in the $49 introductory special.
Our karate classes are perfect for all individuals of varying skill levels and who fall into practically any age group. We have students from as young as three and as old as 103, making this one of the most versatile ways to help you achieve your health and fitness goals as well as learning important life skills that will benefit you immensely in all areas of your life.
