At our classes, you will be able to learn traditional karate and its
techniques, which include some fitness-based exercises.
Although each of our locations offers a different schedule, you can join us for your training sessions six days a week during our flexible time slots. This means we can accommodate your time schedule as and when you need it.
When you join us for your first karate training session, you should simply wear loose and comfortable clothing that you can move around in. What’s more is that once you join, you will receive a uniform that is included in the $49 introductory special.
Our karate classes are perfect for all individuals of varying skill levels and who fall into practically any age group. We have students from as young as three and as old as 103, making this one of the most versatile ways to help you achieve your health and fitness goals as well as learning important life skills that will benefit you immensely in all areas of your life.

Miss Taura and Action Karate have been amazing for my 6 year old autistic son. He struggles with loud sounds, big groups and being “center of attention” and they were willing to work with his needs and adapt to help him come out of his shell. They took the time to let him warm up to them and allowed him to build is confidence on his own. We started with doing private lessons and now just two month later he is in the group lessons learning right along with all the other kids. Action Karate is a wonderful experience for me and my two sons. The Instructers are awesome, the atmosphere is awesome, the vibes is awesome, the energy spiritually is super relaxing and awesome. My daughter LOVES Action Karate! She participated in the spring tournament and she was ready for the next one the following day. The staff at AK Manayunk are kind, supportive, and very involved in the progression of the class. I love the fact that there are so many instructors in each class to help keep the students focused and to provide small group attention throughout the session. In the few months that we’ve been here, my daughter has become more vocal in group settings and seems to be motivated to make and achieve small goals.
Trying to find a sport/activity that my son enjoyed has been a long road. Enrolling him in Action Karate has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Watching him in class grow and show a level of confidence I have never seen is amazing. The instructors are very dedicated to these children and have helped them in so many ways to boost their confidence and teach them life lessons in ways they can understand. Action Karate Manyunk has given my daughter more life skills than money can buy. It has helped my daughter grow with confidence, discipline, courage and humility. They teach children how to defend themselves if they are in danger but they also teach them how to be respectful to adults, win and lose with grace and be resilient in achieving their goals. My daughter is now apart of a community of children who enjoy being together learning martial arts more than being on their tablets. At Action Karate kids learn, they have fun and they grow strong mind body and soul.
My son has been training at Action Karate Manayunk for almost 3 years. In that time, we've seen great improvement in his focus, fitness, and most importantly, his confidence. While the program is mainly focused on teaching kids martial arts skills, they also learn really important life skills like public speaking, self-discipline, goal setting, perseverance and respect, leading to huge improvements in his performance in karate as well as at home and in school. He's getting ready to test for his junior blackbelt in a few weeks and we're so excited to see his continued growth as a martial artist. Highly recommend this program for kids of all ages and ability levels!
I’m so happy with our decision to enroll our toddler in karate. His focus has improved after only about 10 classes, which are always staffed with lots of qualified instructors, as well as slightly older kids who are more advanced serving as helpers with the little ones. Every step of the enrollment process was thoughtful, clearly communicated and made us all feel welcome and informed. It’s super easy to reserve class times through the app. I’m excited to see how our little man progresses.

Action Karate is awesome. I found it very hard to find a hobby for my son. He’s very particular. I’ve practiced martial arts when I was younger, so I’ve decided to sign him up and he loves it. It’s been 10 weeks and AK has really built up his confidence and focus so much, he doing great in school and even made honor role. I 100% recommend enrolling your child or even yourself . They even offer trail classes.

So happy I invested in my son with Action Karate Manayunk! It’s only been a month and a half but I have seen so much change in him.
Our daughter has been attending for about a month now and absolutely loves Karate!!! She loves reminding me of what to say with each move and telling me that she’s a strong ninja shark. I was very surprised at how focused all of the students are able to stay due to their young age but the instructors do a great job of keeping them entertained and focused on tasks!

Action Karate Manayunk is amazing. Great instructors that want to see the best in everyone that comes in. Great place ran by some great people. I am glad to have myself and daughter training at Action.
Our children ages 7 and 9 (girl and boy) have been with Action Karate for 5 months now. They both really enjoy it and it has been a positive experience for the kids individually but also to us as a family. One thing i really appreciate is how well the non combat lessons align with behaviors that we’re already teaching at home. It is beneficial for our kids to hear the same things echoed from other adults that they look up to. The actual martial arts they teach at this level is easy enough for any kid to pick up on and it always seems like the children are enjoying themselves. The kids get a good workout and are learning discipline and self defense which will serve them well as they face the tribulations that youth brings. Admission allows you access to classes everyday of the week and sign up is easy. If you can afford to commit to this discipline then i would say that you will not be disappointed.

I can’t explain how amazing manayunk is. When i first enrolled i was a shy kid who would try and hide behind my parents all the time. Now 8 years later im testing for my 2nd degree black belt and i have grown outside of my shell and have learned to be an amazing person. Everybody at AK manayunk has been their for me every step of the way.
My son Anthony started at Action karate about 3 months ago, and it has been awesome. He has shown tremendous growth not only physically, but more important mentally and emotionally. His confidence is through the roof, which helps him grow in school, at home, and his relationships. All the instructors are amazing and very focused on helping each student achieve black belt excellence. My favorite part of this journey is the time spending with my son, Watching him grow, bonding with him, training with him, seeing him competing in the tournaments, learning healthy competition. My name is Charlie, and I started Action Karate in January 2022 at 7 years old. I wanted to join karate after watching Shang Chi, the movie. When I first started, I liked learning how to punch and kick targets. Through the years and earning belts I really enjoyed learning how to do the self-defenses. Some are difficult to do like a block of a right hook punch, so I need to practice that. One other thing that is hard is push-ups because you have to keep your knees and back straight while bending your elbows. I struggle with this the most, but I am practicing each day to get stronger. In conclusion, I am excited to earn my black belt so I can show off all of my defenses and how strong I have gotten.
My son Evan has had the pleasure of having an amazing journey at Action Karate. When he started in September 2019, he was struggling to stay focused and manage his anger issues but Action Karate helped him improve his life in so many aspects! In the beginning, he focused on learning all about forms, punches, and kicks. As his skills grew, he joined the Black Belt Leadership Team. He loved learning about how to work with weapons and was able to be a role model for many students. Soon after he joined, the pandemic happened, and Action Karate pivoted effortlessly to virtual classes. Though challenging at times, he kept progressing higher up the ranks, learning more things even in the virtual learning space. As restrictions eased he started to compete in tournaments. As much as he loved the competitions against other Action Karate students, he also loved the fun activities like movie nights and board breaking.
After 3 years, he earned his Junior Black Belt which brought him so much pride. As his journey continued, he began to lose friends as some of them quit, moved away, or got their Junior or Senior Black Belt and stopped training. I was so proud of him when he chose to rededicate himself to his training in order to earn his Senior Black Belt. After he advanced to his purple belt, Evan decided to become a Jr Instructor. He assisted in teaching the kids classes and was enjoying it a ton. When he got my brown belt, he decided to join the Jr Demo Team. This meant he got to perform at various events like the Roxborough 4th of July parade and learn performance skills while getting physically better and stronger. He has recently started Senior Black Belt training and looks forward to achieving his goal. Finding Action Karate and enrolling my daughter at 4 years old was the best thing I could have done for her. Mr. C and staff are truly amazing, attentive and professional. Ms. Taura consistently checks in on not only the students but the parents as well. She is now 5 years old and has been attending for 8 months. She was sometimes shy, quiet and had stage freight. In the short time I have watched her grow into herself and her confidence, attentiveness, coping mechanisms and stage presence has grown/improved. She attended her first tournament in April and was wrecked with nervousness and tears but still made it through the routine. She attended this last tournament this past weekend and watching her concur the stage with confidence and disciplined performance she walked away placing third place. I’m truly amazed at how much she has improved and all the constant support she gets from the instructors and junior instructors. She said she wants a black belt like her teachers. This is a great weekly addition to our schedule and she enjoys going to class and has started to get to know her classmates better and make friends. I truly recommend Action Karate Manayunk.

Where do I start? The Staff! Ms. Taura was the first face we saw. She is so kind and upbeat and inviting. I knew after a short one on one class that she was someone I wanted my child to be around. She taught her so much in such a short period of time, she also sat with me and we talked about my concerns, reasons for trying Karate and more.
Mr C and the other instructors clearly love what they are doing and obviously love the kids. My child is always addressed by her name and is as excited to be in their class.
Since being enrolled she has grown beyond measure. Mostly in focus and sooooooo much in sense of responsibility. The staff is phenomenal!!! I love sitting in on every class. They focus on things outside of the physical aspect. Things such as mindfulness and nutrition, that I LOVE.

My 3 boys started at Action Karate in April after instructors attended their school for a demonstration. They absolute love their classes! The instructors are so kind and patient with all the children. I love how the classes are ran, with group training so the children can interact with each other as well as individual training where each child has one-on-one time with an instructor. They have lessons of the week/month and do a great job at making sure the class is focused! They also make sure parents are involved and know what is going on at every class! Another great thing about Action Karate is the flexibility with classes. They have an app that makes it so easy to sign up for classes each week. You do not have to commit to a certain day/time which is very helpful when parent schedules can change week to week. I am very happy with my decision to join the Action Karate Manayunk family!

This is a review by my daughter: I started karate when I was 5 years old. One of the reasons I started karate was because when I started karate, COVID-19 was here and I could take lessons on the computer and didn’t have to go anywhere. But now I go in person two times a week. I have been doing karate for three and half years and am working towards my junior black belt.
I used to be really shy, but karate has helped me get more comfortable around people. My first Tournament was super scary, and I didn’t think I could go up in front of the judges, but now at Tournaments I feel less nervous. Getting my junior black belt will be my next step of getting to my goal of becoming an instructor someday

My son has been going to Action Karate for over 2yrs and I love the growth and good to see all the things he had learned over the time he is now comfortable doing. He's also not as shy as he was when he first began class and now he convinced his older sister to join Action now her journey begins lol So I highly recommend to parents to enroll they're kids and give it a try!
My son absolutely loves Action Karate! He looks forward to it every week. Each instructor is very encouraging and hands on with the kids. We are so happy with our experience at Action Karate Manayunk! Our 5 yo son really struggled initially to pay attention / join in each class and the instructors have rallied around him to figure out how to help him best. He absolutely loves it and asks if he can go almost daily! We love how there are several instructors each class so he gets lots of individual coaching and they also seem to understand his unique needs. The instructors (and other parents) have also been so encouraging and supportive for me through watching my son struggle initially. We have tried MANY group sports/activities and this is the first one he has really enjoyed and felt proud of himself!

My daughter loves Action Karate. She is so excited to be training for her black belt. Before karate Lei was shy and stayed to herself. I now get to watch her bloom and step out of her shell and interact with the other kids in class. He usually has someone specifically working with him during classes so he can build his confidence and skills and the instructors are always all very positive. My son can be shy and shut down easily in classes with multiple kids, but that never happens here. He loves it and can’t wait to go every week! We’re so happy we started taking him here!
My son is currently taking classes here. I like how the teacher interact with him and how they built a bond with him. He is getting better with each class. The teacher are awesome. The picture I attached was from the holiday class they had.

Action Karate in Manayunk is the best place I could have found for my 5yo son. The location is convenient for us, the staff is great and super patient, and they offer ways to involve the parents with their child or children like assistant coaching. They offer workout classes during the holidays for the parents as well as holiday gatherings for everyone. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking to enroll your child into karate. You will not be disappointed.
I would just like to share how wonderful the staff is. We recently celebrated my youngest birthday party with them and let me just say WOW! The staff was very well organized with the whole thing and were absolutely incredible with the children and they were ranging from 3-12 years old. They had even the shy kids running around having a blast! The Manayunk staff did such an amazing job and I was able to sit back and actually enjoy the party with my daughter instead of hosting it! They also had an awesome cake cutting ceremony that my 8 year old was absolutely thrilled with! 10 out of 10 definitely recommend for not only karate class but birthday parties as well!
We love the atmosphere and energy of Action Karate Manayunk! I love how each of the instructors know each of the students. They encourage them and give then motivation. They have both in class and online options, and allow for make ups too if needed. We are so happy we found a place our son loves!
My daughter has been taking classes here for a few months now and I can say, it looks like we made a great choice! Scheduling classes are a breeze and it really helps that they have multiple options for those parents with tight schedules.Class sizes vary but it seems to always be an appropriate student to teacher ratio.The staff here have been amazing so far.She does not have a favorite teacher because they are "ALL AWESOME".The communication and encouragement during every session is impressive. The lessons she has received have been beneficial and I really enjoy it as we continue to watch her commitment to learning and reaching her next goal.
We started with Action Karate Manayunk during the pandemic as an activity to get out of the house - 3.5 years later my son (age 13) is about to test for his black belt. The instructors and other students and families there have been amazingly supportive throughout our journey. More so, I've seen my son grow not just in capabilities, but in character. He has learned leadership and coaching skills that will greatly benefit him in life. I would highly recommend AK Manayunk to anyone considering martial arts for themselves or their kids.

Fantastic teachers, great facilities and wonderful teaching where all the children can train together and teach each other. A feeling if empowerment and personal drive can be seen which is great for reinforcing the self confidence.
Disgusted. This place is fine until you want to drop the classes. Today (9/20) I received a letter from a debt collector for $2,664 from action karate. I told Action Karate in February that I was canceling my membership after a small injury to my finger. It was uncomfortable to participate with my finger constantly in pain. They didn’t care at all so I canceled the classes for me and my niece. After multiple conversations and text regarding my cancellation. I was told that they would stop the payments and they didn’t. $600 a month for classes I stopped attending so I had to change my card information to stop the charges. Now In September, I am receiving a letter for a debt collection. This is insane. Be aware!

In that meeting, she asked if I would consider a cheaper membership option where I would only come in 2 times a week. I told her, I would think about it but I still wanted to cancel my membership. That next week, I still was charged $300 plus $60 for some blade device (I was fine with the $60 as I already took the weapon home) which I then called and spoke to her over the phone about. This is not an issue of miscommunication. I said multiple times that I needed to cancel my membership. I don't have an issue with action karate as an establishment and I understand the "commitment" aspect but I was very clear that I wanted to cancel both memberships to Miss. Taura in person, over the phone and text. I do appreciate you offering to pay to remove my debt from the agency. I will be in contact if needed. Best regards.

Jett is 8 years old and I started researching Action Karate one because his Mother who is no longer with us wanted Jett to be apart of Action Karate but I wasn’t sure which one I should join as there are so many sites in the city. I was looking for a facility that would help Jett build his confidence, respect,discipline self esteem, and active listening. As a single mother of two I started to feel like my oldest needed more structure then what he was getting at home, I seen the as for first free class on Facebook for Action Karate and took the offer. First class was awesome an my son really enjoyed it! Very affordable pricing when it came down to signing him up everyone was very sweet an very understanding. The challenge for awhile was getting him there on time but with the help of his instructors and myself reminding him how important the classes are an he is striving and getting so good at the techniques I totally recommend and glad I made this decision 😊🤞🏽
We love action karate so much my kid started off as a shy timid girl. now she is more energetic, Open to try new things and love making new friends at action karate. The coaches are friendly, Helpful and keep your kid motivated to do their best. The best part is the way they Motivate kids to do their best and inspire them to become their better selfs. By never given up and during their very best.

My son and I really like Action Karate! Being new to the area, it has helped my son make friends and have a sense of belonging to something. I enjoy it because the staff is really kind and uplifting, they have many family activities and it’s a diverse group of people. All around good vibes for mind, body and spirit!!
Both my children have attended Action Karate Manayunk and have loved it; especially my daughter. They were able to work with her and her drive to succeed. She's been taking karate here for 3 years and is about to get her junior black belt at the age of 8. I can't recommend this center enough for their flexibility and willingness to teach your children grit and perseverance. These are critical skills she will definitely use all her life.
Action Karate Manayunk is so supportive of a diverse range of students, age and abilities. They also include special needs teenagers and young adults in the adult class, which is wonderful, but spend extra time getting to know those students and making sure they’re getting what they need. As a caregiver, they stay in touch with me about progress, and check in to see how we’re doing. So supportive and kind! Can’t say enough good things.
My son, who is autistic, had been asking to join a karate class. We got a recommendation to Action Karate in Manayunk and couldn’t be more pleased. They understand his issues and are able to have him successfully join the class, providing him with enough personalized instruction that does not take away from others in the class. We have noticed a positive change in his stamina and discipline. We live 45 minutes away and are more than willing to do the drive. The staff and the program are that good!

We started with Action Karate after winning 2 free weeks of classes and my 7 year old has been hooked ever since! He is excited to attend all his classes and he gets a great workout while learning essential self defense skills as well as character skills to help him not only develop in class but in home and at school as well! The staff is attentive and passionate about what they do! I was even inspired to take the free January parent classes!
