We transferred to Action Karate Plymouth Meeting when we moved from out of state. They are a family run dojo and did an amazing job of acclimating our student and allowed him to utilize the belt level he was currently at to start. We love that all of their katas are taught in practical terms of self defense. They also discuss value lessons weekly, where they go over characteristics of leadership, gratitude, goal setting, (we especially love that students are required to set goals so they can see progress). After a year here, our son is also now learning how to become a sensi (teach). They also host some really fun parties: like water wars to celebrate the end of summer, glow in the dark board breaking, etc. They also have get-togethers for the adults. And they have summer camps and parents’ night outs. So everyone really gets a chance to get to know each other. I cannot thank them enough for how they are helping our son to grow as a person and how welcome we always feel. They feel like part of our family.

Action Karate Plymouth Meeting is a superior martial arts school. Mr. Sean Dwyer, Ms. Jacki Vega, and the other instructors there have developed a top notch learning environment that supports young children just getting into karate, students with exceptionalities, as well as teenagers and adults of all degrees of physical health and prior experience levels. They also have created an amazing community within the school. It is an inclusive environment where everyone is accepted. Every instructor there takes time to get to know the student, the families, and the siblings. The school orchestrates special events and outings, and this has led to a wide network of wonderful and valued friendships, even outside of the school. Mr. Dwyer has a deep understanding of the style of Kenpo and is very knowledgeable on other martial arts and their nuances. He is able to draw comparisons and make connections for students that have studied other styles, which lends to a fluid learning experience. Classes also touch regularly on applying the lessons from the workout to other areas of life skill development (adults too). It is challenging, it is difficult physically and mentally, it is not always “fun” (repeated kicks using the wall for balance), but it is always worth it.

So lucky to have found this karate class! Ms. Dana & Ms. Jackie are amazing teachers. They both had so much patience with our 3 year old and she warmed up to them right away because they were both very kind to her and made her feel welcomed. Highly recommend Action Karate for your energetic little ones!

Action karate is a fantastic place not only to learn new skills but a place to meet good people. In today's world it can be hard to find good role models and friends for kids and even for adults. Action Karate allows a person to come in and find that role model or that friend that can help you throughout life. In my opinion my classmates are a most like family.

Action Karate Plymouth Meeting is, by far, the BEST Karate School in the Area (From Upper Roxborough - Norristown)! Master Dwyer and his Team have a High level of Expertise coupled with Professionalism and Friendliness that is Unmatched. My children have gained a family-like bond of trust with the instructors, while maintaining a level of discipline and respect you find in a school setting! Best of all, I was able to take adult classes to help set an example, not just for my children, but WITH my children regarding the weekly "lessons of life". (i.e. Perseverance, Respect, Goals, Self-Discipline, etc). Also, Action Karate Plymouth Meeting has Karate Day Camps, Private Lessons, and Promotions for the whole family (i.e. Moms train Free in May). This is the Karate School where ALL your needs are met...Everyone is Special and Your Goals are Achievable!

The training I have received is invaluable and something that I will never be able to thank Master Dwyer and the other students at Action Karate enough or repay them for. Martial arts training, in particular through Action Karate, has had an immense positive influence on me personally, and on my family. Training has been physical, mental, and spiritual and has spilled over into all aspects of my life. I feel it is an honor and a privilege to be invited to test for a black belt in June 2013. Physically I am stronger and more fit than I was before I started training. I am more conscious of better choices both in exercise and nutrition. I have learned how to push myself physically and what it takes to become stronger. I’ve also come to better appreciate the importance of setting a good example in exercise and nutrition for my children. I understand better how making small improvements over time come together slowly to empower a transformation. I have experienced this in my physical training (endurance and strength training) as well as in my self-defense training (form and technique in kicking, punching, blocking) and also in my attitude (show up, have integrity, be accountable, serve as a good, reachable role model by gaining self-confidence and appreciating what I have to offer). I strive to keep my focus positive and to work on constant and continuous improvement in karate, in my personal life, and in my career. I have learned how to set well-defined goals so I have a clear understanding of what I am striving for. I have also learned to set goals that I am passionate about, otherwise they aren’t really MY goals. Once a goal is set, I’ve learned that change begets change. For example, a person cannot change the way their body looks or their attitude without embracing permanent lifestyle changes. I have learned that we achieve great things in life not on our own, but through the inspiration and care of and for each other. The whole does not equal the sum of the parts, it can be much greater. Being constantly surrounded positive influences encourages one to embrace these influences, take them in, and make them their own. This is especially powerful when a person is thirsty for this type of influence and may want to make changes but just isn’t sure how or needs encouragement. I have worked hard and taken my training seriously and it this together with the leadership and friendships I have been blessed with at Action Karate has enabled my personal growth. I am blessed and thankful to be part of the Action Karate family and to have the support of my mentors, family, and friends.

Returning to America after 3 years abroad, I was 9 years old and looking for a fun, challenging, and social sport to stick with. Karate was a perfect match, and I got my junior black belt at the end of 6th grade. I took a break and returned the start of 9th grade, soon discovering my breathing during exercise was worsening. It's tough, but my classmates and instructors have been by my side to keep me patient and positive. Now I'm finally testing for my adult black belt!

Although each of our locations offers a different schedule, you can join us for your training sessions six days a week during our flexible time slots. This means we can accommodate your time schedule as and when you need it.

What should I wear to my first training session?

When you join us for your first karate training session, you should simply wear loose and comfortable clothing that you can move around in. What’s more is that once you join, you will receive a uniform that is included in the $49 introductory special.
